I am a color runner
Some weeks ago my friend Helen wrote me a message „There is the Color Run in Münster in May, let’s run there ! “ A run ? I was a little terrified. Those of you who know me might know that running a marathon (or at least a half marathon) is on my life bucket list but since Christmas I have some ITBS problems with my knee so I couldn’t run since then. „Sounds great but I have to see if my knee is going to be fine then.“ Was my answer to her. And while I started to research a little about what to do against my knee injury she started bombing me with messages about the run and if I already know I could come with her. Maybe I just needed that little push as I researched a lot more to be able to send her an answer. I found practices to train the knee, to stretch it and I even found a compression strap from the US that athletes use to protect their knee. She asked me over and over again and it was just what I needed to go back on my path and start running again. I ran slowly and carefully, I stretched and trained the muscles around me knee but I was running. So my answer was „I am back! Let’s sign up for the run.“ We found two other friends and signed up as a group and so I can say I ran my first run this weekend. Something I didn’t even dared to dream of in the past three months but sometimes you just need that little push, that friends who doesn’t stop asking to do the work to get back to running.
Because sitting at home whining over a hurting knee and watching marathons on TV instead of working out is a lot more comfortable than starting to work out again and doing the work to recover isn’t ?
I have to admit this run is not a serious run. It is a lot of fun, it is just 5km, crazy people and a lot a lot of color.
Here are some impressions from our run yesterday.
And our glorious before and after in front of the big castle in Münster.
